Lady boys performance in Hat Yai

Clad in fanciful costumes and impeccable makeup, the Lady boy’s performance was a night with elements of amusement, sensuous sophistication and erotic dances. They are iconic in Thailand’s tourism and entertainment scene, albeit being pertinent to discussions of gender identity and sexuality.

I admire them for their courage. Many of them remain true to themselves and are proud to live the choices they made despite being enmeshed in the opinions of the majority.

Their lifestyle might not quite adhere to social norms, but right there on the stage they graced; they have stood out and shone just as bright under the spotlight.
