Lacquer Painting
Lacquer painting is a traditional technique commonly practiced in Vietnam. The process is complex and long as it comprises several cycles of coating and sanding.
The three traditional colors of lacquer painting – black, brown and vermilion
The paintings are usually done on wood or carmine black plate, smoothened before the addition of various materials such as:
Egg shells
Sea shells
Gold
The completion of lacquer painting includes a layering of polish and washing. Throughout the years, the invention of new techniques, colours and materials has become the breeding ground for new forms of lacquer arts. Also known for its durability, lacquer paintings now ignite new demand from international markets.
